UMA 19th Sindh Amateur Golf Championship tees off today

More than 160 players will be featuring in the various events of UMA 19th Sindh Amateur Golf Championship which is all set to begin today and will continue till 24th March at Karachi Golf Club.

Sindh Golf Association (SGA) in partnership with United Marine Agencies (UMA) is organizing the 19th edition of Sindh Amateur Golf Championship that will feature more than 160 players in the several events to be contested in the championship. 

President Sindh Golf Association (SGA), Asad I.A Khan said in a press conference that most of the province’s top amateurs, seniors, juniors, ladies and veterans will feature in the three-day championship. “The Sindh Amateur Championship is one of our most prestigious events and we will be staged in a befitting manner,” he added. 

According to the information provided, there will also be special events held to mark the importance as well as to celebrate the Pakistan Day during this championship.  

“The idea is to remember the contributions and sacrifices of our forefathers on Pakistan Day,” said Asad as he pointed out towards a couple of standees at the press conference placed along the backdrop that carried the names of several prominent leaders of the Independence movement.

Among the various title contenders will be former champion Zohaib Asif along with several low-handicappers from clubs such as; Karachi Golf Club and Defence Authority Country and Golf Club and many more leading players from the various clubs of the city will be vying for the Sindh Amateur title. However, a permanent fixture on the Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF) calendar, this year’s championship will be missing its defending champion, the fast-rising Ahmed Baig. Ahmed turned professional earlier this year.

Asad added that the selection of the Sindh team for the National Amateur Championships in Lahore next month will also be conducted during the event. Col Mansoor Akram is the defending champion in the seniors’ category. The Amateur and Senior competitions will be held over 54 holes with the maximum handicap for the former being 12 and for the latter set at 14.

The Ladies event will also be played in which the participants with a maximum handicap of 36 will play over 36 holes while the Juniors’ and Veterans’ contests will be contested over 18 holes. 
United Marine Agencies (UMA) is being the title sponsors of this event and Sindh Golf Association (SGA) is also going to keep a special prize for the first hole-in-one recorded during the championship.
