Barca legend footballer Carlos Puyol officially launches World Soccer Stars Event ticket sale

Barcelona former star footballer Carlos Puyol landed in Karachi to officially kick start the ticket sale of the World Soccer Stars Event at PSL final, the football event is due to be held in Karachi and Lahore next month.

On Saturday, Carles Puyol was overwhelmed by the welcome he received by Pakistan and appeared to be in high spirits throughout. He said, 'Karachi you have been amazing! I am humbled by the warmth the nation has received me with and it brings me great pleasure to be involved with World Soccer Stars as they bring football home.”

A truly special moment of the ceremony arrived when former Spain and Barcelona centre-back Carles Puyol also came on stage to greet the fans. The 2010 World Cup star is in Pakistan to promote the World Soccer Stars event and received big cheers from the crowd. The football legend was joined by Sarfaraz Ahmad captain of Pakistan Cricket Team and welcomed the arrival of football in the country. Kicking footballs in the crowd with Puyol, he said, “It's great to see that after PSL’s success with bringing cricket home, football legends are also coming to Pakistan.”

The welcome given to Puyol is overwhelming and I am thankful to Ehsan Mani of Pakistan Cricket Board for extending this platform to football this graciously'.

“Thank you Pakistan for this amazing welcome,” said Puyol to the packed stadium. “I know people here love cricket, but they also love football. The event will hopefully kick-start football development in the country and I’m excited to be a part of it,” he said. “Development has to start from the base, the kids need to be playing and the institutions have to come forward. There needs to be focus on grassroots.” 

Carles Puyol Saforcada is a Spanish retired professional footballer who played his entire career for Barcelona. Mainly a central defender, he could also play on either flank, mostly as a right-back, and is regarded as one of the best defenders of his generation. He was Barcelona's Captain from August 2004 until his retirement in 2014, and appeared in 593 competitive matches for the club. He won 20 major titles, including six La Liga trophies and three Champions League titles.
