After conducting the Inter-Board sports gala in a pathetic way, Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Director General Dr Akhtar Nawaz Ganjera is now planning to conduct Rs 130 million Quaid-e-Azam Games in April in Islamabad.
The reliable sources told this scribe that the PSB DG was conducting waste of time and energy meetings daily, as he had set his sights on minting money from the Games, just like he did in awarding renovation/maintenance contracts to his blue-eyed persons. “Had IPC Minister taken action on his wrongdoings, he could have not dared to continue to pass on benefits to his near and dear ones.”
The sources added that a number of irregularities found firstly in awarding contracts to the contractors, despite spending millions of rupees renovation/maintenance work of Allama Iqbal Hostel, Liaqat Gymnasium is nowhere near completion. “Roofs of Allama Iqbal hostel tell the exact story, while washrooms and walls are also telling the inside story of what happened actually. Million of rupees were spent only on Alalma Iqbal hostel kitchen renovation and washrooms, but water pours from every corner,” they said.
The sources questioned that the purpose of conducting meetings when no fair opportunities were provided to open market so that they might also bid and proper procedure was adopted before finalising the contractor. “Tracksuits and shoes tenders were always awarded to same outlets, against whom a lot of reports were registered by the players and had shown reservations over quality of the stuff, but to no avail.”
The sources further stated: “Last year, a huge amount of Quaid-e-Azam Games was wasted without conducting the event and it seems, same will happened this year too. Unless fair check and balance policy is adopted, there is every possibility, the DG will remain successful in awarding tenders of the Games to his blue-eyed persons once again.”
“No one in the PSB is allowed to speak against the DG’s wrongdoings. Instead of rectifying his mistakes and appreciate the honest staff, the DG threatens them of dire consequences. DDG M Shahid is a classic example of Ganjera’s wrath, as he was thrice transferred to different wings, as he always speaks about rule of law and refuses to obey unlawful DG’s orders,” the sources asserted.
The sources further stated that daily 2 or 3 meetings of DDG’s were conducted just to show that the DG was very busy. “The PSB photographers have no other work, but to remain busy with the DG, taking his snaps of his visits to different facilities and post the picture on social media. At one end, deserving athletes, who had given their entire lives to sports and won laurels for the country, are running from post to pillar to get the PSB financial assistance, but the DG doesn’t have time for meeting them, while on the other hand, waste of time and money meetings are going on daily basis,” they added.
The sources urged the IPC Minister to take stern action against Ganjera and seek explanation from him regarding all the irregularities in the PSB. “The IPC minister must invite medal winners of SAG and hand over them handsome cash awards, so they may focus on producing better results. The PM should intervene finally and form a high-level probe committee to conduct detailed inquiry and severely punish the incompetent PSB DG,” the sources concluded.
