Lahore wins 64th Pakistan Railways Athletics Championship
Lahore District won the 2019 title of 64th Pakistan Railways Athletics Championship which successfully concluded at Railways Stadium in Lahore.
Lahore Division stands on the top spot with securing 215 points in the two-day 64th Pakistan Railways Athletics Championship which concluded successfully. Lahore was followed by Multan Division whose players finished second with managing to secure 178 points, whereas the third position went to Workshop Division who securing 137 points in total.
The third position holders also won the prestigious Walton Trophy for their overall performance during 2018-19 championship. Karachi Division ended up on 4th spot with 72 points. International Taekwondo athlete Muhammed Iqbal was declared the best Sportsman and International Powerlifter athlete Twinkle Sohail was declared as the best Sportswomen of the 2018-2019.
Earlier, Pakistan Sports Board Vice-President Dr. Aftab Iqbal apprised the performance of Railways in national sports.
Minister Railways, Sheikh Rasheed along with Pakistan Sports Board Vice President, Dr. Aftab Iqbal was the honorable chief guest on the occasion who later gave away prizes among the high achievers of the championship. Sultan Sikander Raja, Chairman/Secretary Railway Board, Railways Sports Board President Shahid Aziz, Secretary Anjum Shehzad, Sports Officer Tariq Mehmood and other officials were also present.
In his brief address, Sheik Rasheed appreciated the performance of participating athletes and asked them to work hard to bring laurels for Railways. He added that like Railway’s performance in the communication sector of Pakistan, the Railways sports would also put its name on the national circuit. He congratulated Railways Sports Board for the successful organization of this event.
More than 400 male and female athletes from all nine divisions of Railways participated in this two-day championship. The participating divisions were Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Workshop, Railways Police, Multan, Sukkur, Quetta, and Karachi.
