10th Chevron DHA Karachi Cup All Pakistan Open Golf C'ship continue in full swing

As many as 200 golfers are trying their level best to win in this 4-day prestigious Chevron DHA Karachi Cup All Pakistan Open Golf Championship 2019 which is being held at Defence Authority Country and Golf Club (DAC&GC), Karachi.

This four-day championship was inaugurated by Brig Ibrar Hussain Bhatti, Administrator DHA Karachi along with Brig Qasim Changazi, Secretary DACGC.

This is an approved event by Pakistan Golf Federation & Sindh Golf Association which carries a prize money of Rupees 2 Million that is being contested by professionals, senior professionals and junior professionals golfers. Last year’s Champion Matloob Ahmed (Professional) and Ahmed Baig (Amateur) are defending their titles. 

The Championship is being sponsored by Chevron Pakistan Lubricant Pvt Ltd with the most lucrative prize of tournament “Hole in One” has been sponsored by Toyota Central Motors Karachi. 

Aania Farooq and Omar Khalid won the ladies and juniors titles respectively as the 10th edition of Chevron DHA Karachi Cup All Pakistan Open Golf Championship teed off on an extremely windy day when participating golfers faced a really tough challenge, Aania carded 78 (gross) to win the ladies event by six strokes. The experienced Humera Khalid was runner-up with 84. 

In the Juniors’ Category, 14-year-old Omar Khalid won the title by carding 79 (gross). Omar, a grade 9 student of Froebel Educations Centre, won the event by eight strokes ahead of Hamza Gheewala who was runner-up with 87. Omar struggled on the front nine carding 42 but made up for it with a superb 37 on the back nine which included back-to-back birdies on holes 2 and 3.

Syed Navaid Ali reigned supreme in the Seniors’ Category with a gross score of 80 while Azhar Abbas (82) was the runner-up. Col Shahid Mehboob (39) prevailed in the Veterans’ Category while Asghar Ali Khan (43) was the runner-up. The Masters’ Event was also played over nine holes in which Abdullah Badar (40) won the title ahead of Sameer Saeed (41).

While on the second day of the championship, the defending champion Matloob Ahmed catapulted himself to within striking distance of retaining his title when he took a two-shot lead as he carded the best score of the second round – a superb five-under par 67 – to place himself on the top of the leader-board going into the final round. He has a two-day aggregate of 136 (-8) after a first round score of 69. 

Two shots off the pace was the duo of Pakistan#1 Shabbir Iqbal and Shahid Javed Khan. The steady Shabbir carded another round of three-under par 69 for an aggregate of 138 (-6). Shahid followed his first round card of 70 with a stunning four-under par 68 in the second round.

Placed on the fourth position was DHA’s Rehmat Ullah who carded two-under par 70 for an aggregate of 142 (-2) followed by Moazzam Siddique (143), Muhammad Alam (143) and Hamza Amin (144).
