Ahmed Baig secures top spot in 34th Bangladesh Amateur Championship
Ahmed Baig defeated his respective Bangladeshi and Nepali golfers and earned victory in the final round of Bangladesh Amateur Championship 2019 that successfully concluded yesterday at Kurmitola Golf Club in Bangladesh.
The 34th Bangladesh Amateur Championship started on 15th January at Kurmitola Golf Club under the overall supervision of Bangladesh Golf Federation. This is a premier amateur international golf tournament continued till 18th January 2019. ORION, one of the largest conglomerates in Bangladesh, is the proud sponsor of this prestigious tournament for the third consecutive time in a row.
Besides the local amateur golfers, the national team and top amateur golfers of Afghanistan, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan and the host country Bangladesh are participating in the tournament. Moreover, there are 21 expatriates of different countries are taking part in this tournament. Golfers from other Golf Clubs of the country also participated.
Pakistan’s rising golf star Ahmed Baig prevailed over top champions as he was impeccable throughout the four rounds and following his victory he thanked the Pakistan Golf Federation and its president retired Lt Gen Hilal Hussain for giving him this opportunity to compete in this championship.
Firing 76, 71, 72 and 70 for an overall aggregate of one-over 289, he finished ahead of local golfer Mohammed Shamrat (296) and Nepal’s Sukra Bahadur (298).
This championship is set to be his last as an amateur as he will now begin his journey to becoming a professional as he travels to Jordan to participate in the MENA Golf Tour Qualification phase.
