The Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) will initiate a league by the end of 2019 on the Olympic pattern with an aim to strengthen pugilism in the country.
“We are planning to hold this league either in Islamabad or Lahore. The league will take place in accordance with the International Boxing Association (AIBA) rules,” PBF secretary general Nasir Tung said!.
He said that Strawberry Sports Management had consented to collaborate with the PBF to hold the event.
There will be six to eight teams featuring in the league wherein pugilists from Nepal, Sri Lanka and Iran are also likely to be seen in action along with the country’s top boxers.
“We are in touch with these three nations. They are taking deep interest in the league and willing to send their boxers,” Nasir added, while saying the federation would hold the national championship in March in which pugilists from all affiliated units of the PBF would take part in all weight categories.
“After the conclusion of the national championship we’ll announce rankings of national pugilists in all weight categories on the basis of their performance in the championship,” Nasir concluded.
