Lahore Gymkhana Golf & Country Club lifts Inter-Club Golf Championship trophy

The Inter-Club Golf Championship concluded successfully with Lahore Gymkhana Golf and Country Club winning the trophy of the championship at Royal Palm Golf and Country Club in Lahore.

The three most prestigious golf clubs of Lahore took part in this championship in which each club team comprised of 32 golfers, who were exclusively selected to represent their respective clubs in this three-day triangular Inter-Club Golf Championship which successfully concluded yesterday at Royal Palm Golf and Country Club in Lahore. 

Following were the participating clubs:
1. Defence Raya Golf and Country Club
2. Lahore Gymkhana Golf Course and
3. Royal Palm Golf and Country Club

Golfers from the above mention clubs were seen battling against each other with their best of golfing, accurate shot-making skills in the matches so as to earn the trophy of this championship. The first round was contested at Defence Raya Golf and Country Club while second round was conducted at Lahore Gymkhana Golf Course on Saturday and final round was played at Royal Palm Golf Course yesterday.

60 competitors comprising 20 from Defence Raya Golf and Country Club, 20 from Lahore Gymkhana Golf Course and a comparable number from Royal Palm Golf and Country Club, played the first round.

Lahore Gymkhana Golf and Country Club’s 20-member team clinched the trophy of Inter-Club Golf Championship which was introduced by Lt Gen (R) Muhammad Tariq, five years back. According to the 2-day aggregate scores of the two matches played on the first two days into the championship, the winning team accumulated 46.5 points while Royal Palm Golf and Country Club managed 39.5 points and Defence Raya Golf and Country Club score was 34.5 points.

On the final day, 18 holes competition, the winning club claimed the victory of the championship by marking 18.5 points over Royal Palm Golf and Country Club’s 20 points and Defence Raya’s 21.5 points.

For the winning team, it was a team work managed by the players who earned their club the victory of the championship as Amir Mehmood, Farooq Khan, Taimur Shabbir, Waleed Zubair, Ahmed Zafar Hayat, Qasim Khan and Salman Jehangir all were in their dominant form playing to their full passion for the sport. In the handicap category 10 to 16, Omer Zia stood out and was the only one who won two points yesterday, while Tariq Misbah brought in 1.5 points.

Captain of host club team, Royal Palm Golf and Country Club, Abdullah Sharif awarded the glittering trophy to Lahore Gymkhana Golf and Country Club’s captain Omer Zia in the presence of Lahore Gymkhana Golf and Country Club Convener Golf, Shaukat Javed, Royal Palm Golf and Country Club’s CEO, Ramzan Sheikh, Director, Parvez Qureshi, Lt Gen (R) Muhammad Tariq and the team members of all the clubs that participated in the championship.
