Basil, Imaad, Sohaib & Tariq Pervez sparkle in WESPA Youth Scrabble Championship 2018

The WESPA Youth Scrabble Championship 2018 is continued in full swing and will end on 15th December at the American Academy in Dubai.

The WESPA Youth Scrabble Championship 2018 made a kick start at the American Academy in Dubai yesterday. World English-Language Scrabble Players Association (WESPA) Youth Cup, formerly the World Youth Scrabble Championship has been contested every year since 2006. This championship is open to players under the age of 18 and it not only gives players the opportunity to show their Scrabble skills but it is a great way of making friends with others from varied cultures.  

There are about 120 players from all around the world taking part in this three-day championship this year.

Pakistan have already won major scrabble titles with their skillful players such as Moiz Ullah Baig who won The Junior World Scrabble Championship, Princess Cup  Youth Scrabble Championship 2017 won twice, first by Hammad Hadi Khan in 2017 and this year by his twin brother Hassan Hadi Kahn, recently. Pakistan have also won Causeway Challenge Youth Scrabble title by Abdullah Abbasi.

And now Pakistan is competing to create an unprecedented record of winning all the major youth scrabble events having already won the The Junior world scrabble championship, the princess cup (twice) and the Causeway Challenge.

At the end of day one yesterday, Napat Vatjaranurathon of Thailand was on top with 7 wins from as many matches with a healthy spread of 1470. Radinka Dissanayeke of Sri Lanka is on second with his 6 wins and a spread of 776. While, Debutant Basil Ali Khan of Pakistan won his first 6 games but lost the last game to end the day one on the 3rd spot with six wins and a spread of 648.

Whereas the young talent of Pakistan Syed Imaad Ali and Sohaib Sanaullah are also on six wins and are currently 5th and 6th, respectively.

Pakistan is currently on top in the team rankings with four players in the top ten and in the side tournament for adults Mr. Tariq Pervez is making Pakistan proud with being on top having won 5 games with a spread of 629 and is followed by Douglas Tsnag of Hong Kong while Jackson Thomas on 3rd spot.

World English-Language Scrabble Players Association (WESPA) Youth Cup is an event that takes place every year in a different part of the world. Last year it was held in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia whereas this year it is being held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from Thursday 13th to Saturday 15th December.
