Waseem, Moiz & Sohaib representing Pakistan in The Alchemist Cup Scrabble C’ship 2018
Pakistan’s 3 top scrabble players are competing in The 2018 Alchemist Cup Scrabble Championship that is being held from 5th to 9th December at Penang, Malaysia on Wednesday.
The Alchemist Cup is being held at G Hotel Gurney, Penang in Malaysia in which a total of 45 games will be played over 5 days of action. This is an elite invitational event. Ten teams of five players per team are to play a schedule where each player plays the 45 players from teams other than their own.
The event organizer is Michael Tang. His vision for this toughest scrabble championship is that it will be an ongoing tradition held every even year during the first week of December, thus alternating with the WESPA Championship. Only the top 50 players in the world are eligible to compete, based on their international rating.
Waseem Khatri, Moiz Ullah Baig and Sohaib Sanaullah are the three top Pakistani scrabble champions who are representing Pakistan in the ‘Rest of Asia’ in this world championship against players from other 10 nations which include: Nigeria, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Rest of World, Singapore, Rest of Asia, Rest of Africa and the host country, Malaysia.
Pakistan’s Waseem Khatri started the tournament well, winning his first four matches, but lost the next four to end the day with a 5-4 record. While reigning world junior scrabble champion Moiz Ullah Baig also managed 5 wins from 9 games. Whereas, the 16-year-old Sohaib Sanaullah defeated Khoo Beng Way with a 1615 – 1821 score.
