12th National Women Karate Championship from tomorrow

A total of 9 units of the country are to vie in this 3-day 12th National Women Karate Championship which will be staged from 30th November to 2nd December at Sports Gymnasium Hall in Sahiwal.

Pakistan Karate Federation (PKF) in joint efforts with Sahiwal District Karate Association is organizing the three-day mega Karate event for women on a national level which has been named as National Women Karate Championship in its 12th edition this year. International women players will also be joining this special event.

All affiliated units of Pakistan Karate Federation (PKF) as well as provinces of the country are participating in this championship which includes:

1. Pakistan Army
2. Police
3. Water And Power Development Authority (WAPDA)
4. Pakistan Railways
5. Punjab
6. Sindh
7. Baluchistan
8. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and
9. Islamabad

Several fighters will be seen competing with each other in the upcoming fights in four different categories of Individual Kumite, Individual Kata, Team Kata and Team Kumite.

Following are the weight categories in which fights will be contested:
1. Below 45 kg
2. Below 50 kg
3. Below 55 kg
4. Below 61 kg
5. Below 68 kg
6. Above 68 kg

Weigh-in of the players, Managers’ meeting and draws will be held tomorrow while on the first day of the weekend; preliminaries and finals of Team Kata, Individual Kata, Kumite Above 68 kg, Below 61 kg, Below 55 kg and Below 50 kg categories will be conducted. Whereas the final day of the championship will have fights in preliminaries and finals of Kumite Below 45 and also Team Kumite prize distribution ceremony.

"The event is a step forward to further popularize karate among women folk and we are confident to shortlist a group of outstanding players for their grooming on modern lines," said Andleeb.
