5-member Pakistani squad selected for Nick Faldo Series Golf C'ship 2019
Humna, Rimsha, Arsalan, Saqib and Damil will be representing Pakistan in Nick Faldo Series Golf Championship which is scheduled to be staged next year in Vietnam.
The Faldo Series aims to create access to the sport for a younger audience through grass-roots initiatives at its tournaments. A successful not-for-profit organization that is raising the profile of golf around the world. For Sir Nick’s contributions and service to golf, Nick Faldo received a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II in November 2009. Sir Nick is the only living British golfer to receive such an honor and with 6 Major championships, more than 40 tournament victories and a total of 98 weeks as the world’s number 1 golfer, he is broadly regarded as the most successful golfer that Britain has ever produced.
Boys and girls aged 12 to 21 have the opportunity to play one practice round and three tournament rounds at their chosen venues. The age group winners at each tournament will receive an invite to join Sir Nick at the 22nd Faldo Series Grand Final.
The four-day trials to select a three-member boys and a two-member girls team for the forthcoming Nick Faldo Golf Championship were held under the supervision of Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF). In these trails for boys, there were 3 age categories in which they were to compete, under-21, under-18 and under-16 years of age. For girls the age categories were under-21 and under-16.
At Defence Raya Golf Course, Rimsha accomplished an impressive four rounds aggregate score of 287. Her younger sister Parkha Ijaz (Defence Raya) ended as runner-up in the under-21 years girls category but her aggregate score of 297 was more remarkable than the boys sections winners. In girls Under-16 years of age category Humna Amjad is the one having the honor of representing Pakistan on an international level.
While in U-21 category, Muhammad Arsalan will be representing Pakistan as his aggregate score is 316 whereas Rafay Raja stands on 2nd stop by a margin of five strokes.
Muhammad Saqib has the honor of getting selected by PGA in U-18 category as he managed to score an aggregate of 303 to which Junaid Irfan stands 2nd by 11 strokes. The U-16 champion turned out to be Damil Ata Ullah with a four days score of 305 and Syed Yashal Shah with a score of 326 ended up as runner-up.
At the conclusion of these trials, Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF), President Lt. Gen. Hilal Hussain along with Asad IA Khan, Vice President of PGF, distributed prizes to the high achievers of the trails.
Last year, Pakistan’s Ahmed Baig won the Faldo Series Asia Championship in Vietnam.
But he skipped his Faldo Series Pakistan Championship title defence because he is playing at the Faldo Series Europe Grand Final at the Al Ain Equestrian Shooting and Golf Club in Abu Dhabi. On the opening day of that event, Ahmed shot a two-under 68 and is one of three golfers tied in second place, two strokes behind joint-leaders George Goddard of England and Welshman Toby Bishop.
