Pakistan Youth Golf Team trails for Nick Faldo Golf C’ship begins
The four-day trials to select Pakistan Youth Golf Team to participate in forthcoming Nick Faldo Golf Championship in Vietnam commenced at Defence Raya Golf Course in Lahore.
The Faldo Series aims to create access to the sport for a younger audience through grass-roots initiatives at its tournaments. A successful not-for-profit organization that is raising the profile of golf around the world. For Sir Nick’s contributions and service to golf, Nick Faldo received a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II in November 2009. Sir Nick is the only living British golfer to receive such an honor and with 6 Major championships, more than 40 tournament victories and a total of 98 weeks as the world’s number 1 golfer, he is broadly regarded as the most successful golfer that Britain has ever produced.
Boys and girls aged 12 to 21 have the opportunity to play one practice round and three tournament rounds at their chosen venues. The age group winners at each tournament will receive an invite to join Sir Nick at the 22nd Faldo Series Grand Final.
The four-day trials to select a three-member boys and a two-member girls team for the forthcoming Nick Faldo Golf Championship started under the supervision of Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF). In these trails for boys, there are three age categories in which they are to compete, under-21, under-18 and under-16 years of age. For girls the age categories are under-21 and under-16.
The first day trails saw the 2 players stood out overall irrespective of the age category, Damil Ata Ullah in U-16 and Rimsha Ijaz. As for Damil, he carded a gross score of gross 71, one under par and the optimistic element is that Rimsha Ijaz also came up with the same score, a gross 71. Their drives were impressive and there were hardly any lapses in the fairways shot making.
In the age category U-21, Muhammad Saqib is on top with a score of gross 78 while Rafay Raja managed to be placed one stroke behind him at gross 79. While Hamza Sheikh and Muhammad Arsalan scored gross 82. In U-18 age category, Junaid Irfan and Rao Haris of are at 82 score.
Whereas in girls category, Parkha Ijaz scored 78, Humna Amjad 79, Suneya Osama 80, Aania Farooq 81 and Arooba Ali 83.
The 2018-19 Faldo Series Asia season is supported by The R&A and endorsed by the Asian Tour and the Asia Pacific Golf Confederation. The International Junior Golf Academy is a partner of the Faldo Series.
Two events in China, India and Thailand, championships are being staged in Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Chinese-Taipei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam. Recognized as the only global amateur series for boys and girls, the Faldo Series was established in 1996, expanding to Asia in 2006.
