Ahmed seizes 8th CNS Amateur Golf C’ship title
As many as 240 golfers participated in the 8th Chief of the Naval Staff Amateur Golf Championship which was held at Defence Raya Golf and Country Club Golf Course in Lahore.
The 8th edition of Chief of the Naval Staff Amateur Golf Championship was organized under the supervision of Pakistan Golf Association (PGA) which was contested at the elegant green course of Defence Raya Golf and Country Club. As many as 240 golfers showed their excellent golfing skills in this three-day mega golf even which concluded successfully with Ahmed Baig Khan’s win of the title in Senior Amateur category as he accomplished this win by beating his opponents Zohaib Asif and Zonair Aleem who stands at the second and third positions with 219 and 220 points respectively. Ahmed scored a total of 191. During the three rounds, Ahmed scored 65 on the first day, a national record breaking 60 on the second day and again a 66 on the final day which adds up to a total 3-day aggregate 191 twenty five under par.
Another significant feature is that he had only one bogie on the closing 18th hole where he suffered as he attempted to hit a two on shot on the par 5, closing hole and landed in the water. During the course of the three days, Ahmed had 26 birdies which again is a record for any golf championship in Pakistan. For this glorified performance, Ahmed bagged the CNS title and a 5 marla plot in Islamabad made possible by the Pakistan Navy Organization, the major sponsor of this event.
While Col. Muhammad Shafi took the first spot in Senior category against two other competitors; Mian Nusrat Waseem and Tariq Mehmood with a three days aggregate score of 76 against the 77 and 78 aggregate of the above mentioned golfers who finished at the second and third spot.
Whereas in the invitational section, the winner turned out to be Murad A Khan of Defence Raya with three day aggregate score of 39. The runner-up spot went to Major Haroon Shafiq and the third position went to Col. Zaheer Dawood.
A large number of lady golfers turn towards this championship as well to participate in which Parkha Ijaz Khan booked the first place by powering over other competitors winning the first position with a score of 76 whereas her sibling Rimsha Ijaz Khan stood second net with a total of 78 score and the third net went to Humna Amjad by an 76 score.
