National Weightlifting squad named for 13th South Asian Games
The Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (PWF) selection committee has announced a 20 member squad for 13th South Asian Games which are scheduled to be held from March 9th to 18th in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (PWF) selection committee has announced the names of the selected weightlifters in both male and female categories which will be participating in the 2019 edition of South Asian Games.
The South Asian Games features a variety of sports in various disciplines and are a biennial multi-sport event held among the athletes from all over South Asian region. The governing body of these games is South Asia Olympic Council (SAOC). At present, SAG are joined by eight members namely Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. The first South Asian Games were hosted by Nepal in Kathmandu (1984) and 13th edition will also be hosted by the same country in the same city. The previous edition of the South Asian Games was hosted by India in 2016.

The selection committee comprising of Hafiz Imran Butt as Chairman and Muhammad Rashid Malik, Muhammad Ilyas Butt, Ali Aslam Chaudhry as members and Secretary, Amjad Amin Butt, is the responsible squad who name the 20-member selected weightlifting squad after the two-days trials held on 30th to 31st October. A training camp will be held in Islamabad soon for preparing the Kathmandu-bound team from Pakistan.
Pakistan’s performance was quiet of noticeable cause as the nation managed to stand on the third spot with claiming 12 gold, 37 silver and 57 bronze medals.
