Pakistan dominates B Division World Scrabble Championship
Waseem Khatri and Moiz Baig are doing well with four wins while B division was dominated completely by Shangrila Pakistan team in the World Scrabble Championship at Torquay, England.
The World Scrabble Championship kicked off at Torquay, England after the Junior World Scrabble Championship was swept away by the Shangrila Pakistan team.
Waseem Khatri and the newly crowned junior world Champion Moiz Baig are representing Pakistan in division A while all the youth players along with veteran Tariq Pervez are playing in the B division in the World Scrabble Championship at Torquay, England.
About 120 players including six former world champions are in the lineup for the 2018 world title.
At the end of day-one Paul Allen of England was on top with an 8-0 record and a spread of 400.
The 2016 world Champion Brett Smitheram was second with 7 wins and a spread of 756 while Paul Gallen of Northern Ireland was 3rd with 7 wins and a spread of 643.
Nigel Richards of New Zealand nicknamed the GOAT (greatest of all times) is currently 4th
Waseem Khatri and Moiz Baig are doing reasonably well with four wins each from 8 matches.
The B division was dominated completely by Shangrila Pakistan team. Halfway through the day all the top 6 spots were occupied by Pakistani players.
At the end of the day Hammad Hadi Khani, runner-up of the junior world championship was the only unbeaten player with 8 wins and a spread of 953.
Another Pakistani Sohaib Sanaullah was 2nd with 7 wins and a spread of 974.
Timothy Lawrence was 3rd with 7 wins followed by Hammad's twin brother Hassan Hadi Khan on 6 wins and Absar Mustajab also on 6 wins.
Tariq Pervez who started with five wins lost his last three matches to end the day on tenth.
A total of 34 matches will be played over 5 days.
