In the second semifinal of the day, Tayyab Aslam prevails in the 5-game drama to move into semi final of the ongoing $30,000 Serena Hotels Chief of the Air Staff International Squash Tournament for Men.
Played on the Center Court at Mushaf Squash Complex, Tayyab took the opening game away from Asim with 8 consecutive points to lead it at 8-2, and finally closing it by 11-3 in under eight minutes. Asim was leading at 5-8 in the second game and later had 2 game-points but could not convert them as Tayyab came from behind to level the score at 10-All and take the game to extra points. An unforced error at the crucial stage helped Asim win the game 10-12.
With games leveled at 1-1, both the players knew the importance of the third game and applied their best but Asim seized the early lead and was leading comfortably at 9-4 as Tayyab got into a bit of verbal exchange with referee over multiple appeals and lost concentration. Asim gained 3 game-points at 10-7 but Tayyab capitalized on Asim's fading fitness and saved the game-points to again level the score at 10-All. Both the players exchanged multiple game-point leads before Asim once again got the upper hand with some help from Tayyab who forced easy balls in the tin. Asim won the 25 minute encounter 14-16.
Tayyab was clearly in a mood to win as he entered the court early for the fourth game whereas Asim was visibly fatigued. World # 71 Tayyab Aslam wasted no time to wrap up the fourth game 11-5 in eight minutes. In the fifth game, Asim summoned all his energy to take a lead at 2-7 but could not maintain it for long ad Tayyab played aggressively and forced world # 86 Muhammad Asim Khan to all corners of the court. It was undoubtedly a battle of the fitness and Tayyab appeared in better shape after more than an hour of grueling squash. Tayyab came back from 5 points deficit to earn the match point at 10-9 and finally winning it there in 85 minutes.
