Asim khan and Tayyab Aslam advance into quarterfinals of Chief of Air Staff Staff international Squash Men's 2018 Tournament
Asim Khan and Tayyab Aslam defeated their respective opponents to book berth into the quarterfinal of $30,000 Serena Hotels Chief of the Air Staff International for Men from 10-14 Sep at the Mushaf Squash Complex, Islamabad.
Pakistan Chief of Air Staff International Championship Mushaf Squash Complex, IslamabadPakistan’s Tayyab Aslam and Asim Khan surprised their Egyptian opponents to reach the quarter-finals of the $30,000 Chief of the Air Staff International men’s squash championship at the Mushaf Squash Complex, Islamabad.
In one of the major upsets of the Men event, world No 95 Tayyab Aslam from Pakistan proved too hot for world # 49 Mohamed Reda from Egypt as he outplayed the Egyptian player in a set of four games by 3-1. Muhammad Reda started brightly and took the first game by 11-1 while in the second game one from Lahore had to struggle hard to take the game by 11-2. Reda lost the momentum and nowhere in the third game as Tayyab took it 11-6 and shut the doors by taking the fourth game by 11-7 to book berth into the quarterfinal in the 45 minutes battle.
In one of the longest encounter, world # 88 Muhammad Asim Khan from Pakistan gave tough time to win the match against his Egyptian opponent Karim Al-Fathi in five games battle by 3-2. The world # 42 started brightly as he took the game by 11-7 then Pakistani star started playing aggressively to won the second game 13-11. Asim didn't allowed Karim to play freely as he won the third game by 11-2.In the twisting fourth game Karim bounced back to equalized the lead at 2-2 with the score of 12-10. Both tried hard to take the commanding position where Asim produced skill full game to win it by 11-9 in 80 minutes struggle.
Now Tayyab Alam will face Asim khan in the quarterfinal match today(12 Sep) at 1:45 PM (PST).
World # 94 Farhan Mehboob from Pakistan could not move to the quarter finals due to head injury in 2nd game and lost to 2nd seed of the tournament, World # 41 Nafizwan Adnan from Malaysia.
