Pakistan secures semifinal spot in Asian games 2018 Hockey

Pakistan defeated Malaysia by 4-1 to remain on top in group B and qualify for the semi final to be played on 30th August.

 

Pakistan defeated tough Malaysia side in the crucial match of 18th Asian Games Men's Hockey pool B to maintain their top spot. Pakistan defeated Malaysia by 4-1 and remain undefeated in the group.

Mohammad Irfan scored the first goal for Pakistan in the 6 minutes from penalty corner. The scores were leveled by Malaysia in the 10th minute when Faiz Helmi Jali scored from a plenty corner. In the second quarter, Pakistan continued their attack but failed to convert the two plenty corners. Malaysia were a touch unlucky when the ball hit the post in the 18th minute. The second quarter ended without a goal scored from either side. 

In the start of third quarter, Pakistan missed a couple of penalty corner opportunities with some fine goalkeeping from Malaysia. However, Ajaz Ahmad managed to net the ball in the eight minute of the quarter to get Pakistan into 2-1 lead. Pakistan got another penalty corner in the 42nd minute which was successfully converted by Mubashir Ali to get Pakistan in a comfortable two goal lead at 3-1. Pakistan scored the fourth goal in the 47th minute with some fine stick work from Ajaz Ahmad who scored his second goal of the match. Malaysia attached Pakistan goal number of times but failed to scoring goals due to excellent goalkeeping from Imran Butt.

Pakistan will play their last pool match against Bangladesh on 28 Aug, 2018. Pakistan currently tops Pool B with 4 Matches and 4 Wins.
