Pakistan win 4th "Peace Cup" International Juvenile Football Tournament 2018
Pakistani junior football team clinched the title of "Peace Cup" International Juvenile Football Tournament 2018 held at Shenyang, China.
The tournament of Peace Cup football which is open to all international teams was hosted by the municipal government of Shenyang China, undertaken by Heping District government, the Municipal Sports Bureau and the Shenyang Ao’mei Sports Culture Communication co., ltd. A total of 202 teams from 13 countries across 46 cities and regions with more than 4,000 teenagers gathered in Shenyang to share the charm and joy of football.
Successfully held in Shenyang for three consecutive years, this year’s tournament expanded the scale of the competition, covering more age groups this time around, the age group categories were U12, U13 and U15. The teams were drawn into two groups of five. Each team played once against every club of its group.
The 7 day event saw participant teams from 13 countries including United States, Croatia, South Korea, Vietnam, Pakistan, Thailand, Hong Kong, China and Malaysia.
In the matches played earlier, Pakistan won 2, drew 1 and lost 1 match in group stages which resulted in them progressing to the quarter final match later against Hong Kong in which Pakistan won by 3-2. In the semi-final, China was handed a 4-0 thrashing by Pakistan. Pakistan junior football team’s incredible performance in the semi final allowed them to advance to the final where the team showed remarkable skill to edge one of the toughest Asian competitors, South Korea with a scoreline of 4-2 in penalty shootout.
According Munir, Pakistan Junior Football Team's coach, the team managed to participate in the tournament on their own without any support.
The tournament has become a platform for both cultural and athletic exchanges.
