Matloob Ahmed wins the 10th Independence Day Cup Open Golf Championship 2018
Matloob Ahmed earns the title of the 10th Independence Day Cup Open Golf Championship in the concluding round played at the Defence Authority Country and Golf Club, Karachi.
Matloob started in the championship with four strokes off the pace and turned the tide in his favor with another round of 67 just like his bogey-free 64 in the first round. Matloob finished with a 12-under 204 to register the final win. Islamabad-based golfer Shabbir lost to Matloob, the experienced golfer had lost to to the same opponent in the recently held Sindh Open Golf Championship as well.
Shahid Javed Khan, who was level with Shabbir at the start of the third round, shot a 72 to finish third on three-under 213, a stroke ahead of Mohammad Ashfaq (72). Mohammad Nazir (74), who alongside Shabbir and Shahid was in second place at the end of the second round, ended fifth on 215. Shabbir’s disastrous final-round 75 saw him finish sixth on 216 alongside Mohammad Amir (68). Moazam Siddique (72) and Khalid Khan (71) ended on 217 while Rehmatullah (73) and Talib Hussain (71) were a stroke further adrift.
Shahid and Shabbir put up tough competition against Matloob and he barely made it to the final round. Matloob recovered in the second last round when on the eighth hole both Shabbir and Shahid birdied, Matloob displayed incredible skill throughout the final round by ninth hole on a fourth consecutive birdie. Where Shabbir was at the double bogey on the fourth while bogeys on the sixth and the eighth had seen him slip 11 strokes behind with nine holes to play. Shahid, meanwhile, was eight off the leader with his two bogeys cancelling out the two birdies on the front nine. Nazir too was not any threat to Matloob and was seven off the pace at that stage. Whereas Waheed Baloch of Karachi Golf Club finished the game with a score line of 70, 73 and 66 in all-3 rounds.

Omar Khalid of DHA club ended up as Winner Gross by 38 while 1st and 2nd runner up gross are Sameer Sayeed and Daniyal Khan by 42 and 43.
