Mohammad Saqib triumphs in HSBC Sri Lanka International Junior Golf Championship
Muhammad Saqib bagged an individual honor amidst strong all-round performance from Pakistani players at the HSBC Sri Lanka International Junior Golf Championship.
Royal Colombo Golf Club hosted the HSBC Sri Lanka International Junior Golf Championship 2018 which featured 110 competitors competing for honors in four age groups. Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India, Malaysia and Thailand took part in the tournament.
Winner of the National Junior Amateur Trials, Muhammad Saqib, carried on his good form in the domestic circuit to the international stage as he managed to clinch the individual title of the Championship’s Gold category with round of gross 68, four-under-par by seeing off close competition from Sri Lanka’s number#1 ranked player Vinod Weerasinghe who fell 2 short with a gross 70 to win the Match Play championship for Pakistan.
The championship was divided into four age categories:
Gold: 15 – 18+
Silver: 12 -14+
Bronze: 10 -11+
Copper: 09+ and under
4 golfers from Pakistan participated in the competition accompanied by Manager Asghar Ali Shah, the team was picked by PGF selection committee:

As for the contest in the international team event, Pakistan managed to secure silver medal, a repeat of last year's performance in the inaugural edition of the tournament, after battling it out against Sri Lanka, both teams were tied but Sri Lanka managed to secure victory on the second sudden death playoff hole. India stood 3rd in the team event.
Sri Lanka won the inaugural tournament played last year too beating Pakistan in a cliff hanger.
