India to face off Pakistan in pre quarter-finals of World Junior Squash
Defending champions Pakistan set up a pre-quarterfinal clash with fifth seed India in the WSF-World junior men’s squash team championship with a 3-0 win over Zimbabwe in Chennai, India.
In the opening match of group F, sixth seeds Czech Republic defeated Pakistan by 2-1. Viktor Byrtus overpowered Abbas Zeb 11-9, 11-5, 9-11, 4-11, 11-9 and Ondrej Vorlicek defeated Muhammad Uzair 11-4, 11-6, 6-11, 11-4 in the morning session.
11th seed Pakistan made amends by crushing lowly Zimbabwe by 3-0 in the evening session where Haris Qasim defeated Marek Panacek in straight games to get the second spot in Group F with the final score line of 11-5, 11-6, 11-6 while Czech Republic also won against 24th seeds Zimbabwe 3-0.
Today Pakistan will face Group E topper India at the Express Avenue Mall in Chennai on Thursday (26 july) at 5:30 pm (PST).
In two earlier meetings, Pakistan had beaten India, once in 2006 in a Group league and in 2008 in the semi-final.
