PGF named squad for HSBC Sri Lanka International Junior Golf Championship

Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India, Malaysia and Thailand are set to take part in the Sri Lanka International Junior Golf Championship at the Royal Colombo Golf Club from 1st -2nd August.

Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF) has named a four-member team including two girls, to compete in the Sri Lanka International Junior Golf Championship which is being held at Royal Colombo Golf Club from July 31 to Aug 2. 

The Sri Lanka Golf Union, together with HSBC, will for the second successive year host the International Junior Golf Championship, with over 100 junior golfers expected to take part. Overall winners will get an opportunity to watch “The Open” in UK – 2019.

Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India, Malaysia and Thailand are set to take part in the tournament at the Royal Colombo Golf Club from 1-2 August.

Pakistan golf team is going to Colombo at an invitation sent by the Sri Lanka Golf Union to the PGF. The team has been picked by the PGF selection committee.

Promising 16-year-old Saqib had recently won the national junior amateur trials held at the Defence Authority Country and Golf Club.

Following are the Pakistan's team members:
  1. Mohammad Saqib (LGGC)
  2. Junaid Irfan (KGC)
  3. Rimsha Ijaz (LRGC)
  4. Parkha Ijaz (LRGC)
  5. Retired Capt Asghar Ali Shah (manager).

On the following day an International Junior Golf ‘Team Championship’ for the SLGU Trophy will be held with each of the countries fielding a team comprising two boys and two girls. The terms of play will be on a format structured on a hybrid version of similar international team events such as the Asia Pacific Golf Team Championship and the Ryder Cup in the US. This event will be hosted by the Royal Colombo Golf Club with play set to start at 8.00 a.m. on both days and the afternoon session set to begin at 1.00 p.m.
