In group A, Akhtar first sent Indian Karmesh Patel packing straight (73-16, 69-18, 68-8) and then blanked Ireland’s Ronan Whyte (79-42, 76-20, 61-32) to stay unbeaten. He rounds off his group engagements when he figures against New Zealand’s Denin Bunn .
Following Akhtar’s footsteps, Tahir inflicted straight defeat on South African Stephanus Mundus Grove (68-20, 64-23, 65-16) snf maintained his unbeaten run while outplaying Hong Kong’s Ching Chiu Poon (55-45, 78-0, 66-55). Tahir is silver medallist of the Asian under-21 snooker championship.
Meanwhile, national under-18 champion Umar Khan had an unimpressive start losing both his encounters on the opening day.First he got a straight drubbing at the hands of Russian Mikhail Terekhov (96-6, 65-36, 66-54). In the next fixture he was thrashed by Japan’s Keishin Kamihashi 3-1 (62-31, 64-33, 23-73, 60-51).
