Muhammad Waseem to contest for vacant IBF Flyweight World Title

Pakistani boxer Muhammad Waseem will face South Africa’s Moruti Mthalane in the International Boxing Federation (IBF) flyweight world title bout on July 15 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Pakistan’s only World Boxing Council (WBC) title winner, Muhammad Waseem will face South Africa’s Moruti Mthalane in the International Boxing Federation (IBF) flyweight world title bout on July 15 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The 30-year-old boxer Waseem (8-0, 6 Knockouts), a Pakistan native now residing in South Korea, is five years younger than Mthalane. His two biggest wins to date have come against former title challenger Jether Oliva and previously unbeaten prospect Giemel Magramo, but he makes up the gap in pro experience with an amateur background that includes bronze medals at the 2014 Asian Games and 2010 Commonwealth Games, plus a silver in Glasgow at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

On the other hand, his opponent Mthalane has won 35 of his 37 career fights. The South African Mthalane held the belt from 2009-2014, making four defenses, including stoppage wins over Zolani Tete and Johnriel Casimero. He was stripped of the belt after withdrawing from a mandatory defense against Amnat Ruenroeng and sat out the entirety of 2016 before returning with three stoppage wins in 2017.

Waseem maintained his winning streak and his number one ranking in the flyweight category nowadays he is training in Las Vegas under Vegas-based trainer Jeff Mayweather, the uncle of world-famous Floyd Mayweather said, this is honored that he will be waving the Pakistani flag once again. This looks like a competitive bout between solid finishers.
