Khyber Union win Ramzan Sports Festival Soccer

Khyber Union of District Khyber defeated Young Bannu in the thrilling final of the Ramzan Sports Festival Football event played at Qayyum Sports Complex , Peshawar.

Khyber Union of District Khyber upset Young Bannu in the thrilling final of the Ramzan Sports Festival Football event played at Qayyum Sports Complex under the light organized by Directorate of Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and KP Football Association. 

The final match was witnessed by capacity crowd present on this occasion. Former Sports Minister Aqil Shah, Director General Sports KP Junaid Khan, Secretary KP Football Association Basit Kamal, former Footballer Miraj Uddin from Landikotel Tehsil, District Khyber, Haji Hidayat Ullah, President Peshawar District Football Association and large number of football enthusiasts turned up and enjoyed the match.

Speaking on this occasion, Syed Aqil Shah lauded the Directorate of Sports KP for holding Ramzan Sports Festival for the first time wherein 1000 of players took part in football, hockey, badminton, table tennis, swimming and tug of war. He termed the event vital for the youth to come up and polish their respective games in an appropriate manners. 

In his brief chat, DG Sports announced giving of cash prizes to all position holders. He also announced Rs. 0.2 million for Hockey, Rs. 0.2 million for football, 100,000 each for swimming, athletic, table tennis, badminton and tug of war. He also appreciated Syed Jaffar Shah for holding all the activities related to Ramzan Sports Festival.

He assured that every year all sports activities would be part of the Ramzan Sports Festival on annual basis. He said from next year flood lights would be installed at Lala Ayub Hockey Stadium, Qayyum Sports Complex, Hayatabad Football Complex, Tennis Complex in Pakistan Tennis Club and Cricket Academies at Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium and Qayyum Sports Complex.

The match was started on fast note and each of the teams comprising Khyber Union of Khyber District, the newly merged Khyber Agency area of FATA into KP and Young Bannu of Bannu District provided great thrill for the sitting spectators.

There were incisive rallies of attacks from both the teams Khyber Union and Young Bannu but none of the team could score any goal. After playing a goal-less draw in the first-half and it was the second session in which leading scorer of the tournament hailing from Khyber Union Mujahid netted a fine goal to make the tally 1-0.

On the other hand, Young Bannu after conceding a goal, tried their hard to level the tally but they were failed and thus Khyber Union of Khyber District won the match by 1-0.

In the Badminton event played at Wadood Hall, Qari Adnan, who was also selected for the one month India coaching under qualified coaches, recorded victory against Zulan in three sets battle, the score was 21-19, 21-18 and 21-19. Qari Adnan is also currently Under-15 National Champion.

In the Women singles Fatima defeated Mehvish by 2-0, the score was 21-17 and 21-16 while in the doubles Fatima and Noreena defeated Bushra and Rimsha by 3-0, the score was 21-18, 21-19 and 21-15.

In the Men singles Rehman of Bannu defeated Ihtisham of Peshawar by 3-1, the score was 17-21, 21-19, 21-18 and 21-17 while in the doubles of the Men event Rehman and Khalil beat Kashif and Abdullah by 3-0, the score was 21-19, 21-17 and 21-15. The badminton event was jointly organized by KP Badminton Association and Directorate of Sports KP.

In the Archery Irfan Musazai secured first position, followed by Asim Sheraz and Hashim Khan, in badminton event Danish Babar won first position by defeating Zeeshan Anwar and Shahid Afridi got third position while in the swimming Fahad got first position, followed by Ijaz Ahmad Khan and Naeem Khan. A team of KP Sports Writers Association also took part in football match and were beaten by 4-1 by the Directorate of KP.

In the swimming event national swimmer Maaz Akhtar claimed two gold medals in the 50m free style and 50m butterfly and was declared as the best swimmer in the Ramzan Swimming event organized by Directorate of Sports KP and KP Swimming Association. Coaches Mobin Akhtar, Saleem and Organizing Secretary Asad Khan supervised the swimming event. Maaz Akhtar was closely followed by Humam Ahmad who won silver medal in 50m breaststroke and bronze medal in 50m back stroke.
