Maryam Nasim clinches bronze medal in Avia Powerlifting competition
Pakistan’s star powerlifter Maryam Nasim bag bronze medal by deadlifting 120kg weight in Avia Powerlifting competition and dedicated the win to Pakistan’s hockey World Cup winning hero, Mansoor Ahmed, who recently lost his life.
Powerlifting Australian organized the Avia Powerlifting competition under the supervision of International Powerlifting Federation, invited powerlifters from diverse nationalities residing across Australia.
Pakistan-Australian powerlifter Maryam Nasim participated in the 63 kg category of the event alongside participants from seven other countries. Maryam Nasim suffered an acute injury and she was not able to deadlift even half of the weight besides this she managed to won the Bronze medal by lifting 120kg weight in Avia Powerlifting competition.
“I couldn’t squat or deadlift properly. I was pulling out of the camp but my coach wanted me to learn from this experience. Show the right attitude, still go but not lift heavy,” said Maryam Nasim.
The powerlifter dedicated her win to Pakistan’s national hero, Mansoor Ahmed who recently lost his life. Mansoor Ahmed led Pakistan to an inspiring victory in World Cup 1994, who became a wall to save his goal from opponents’ penalty shots in the final of the tournament.
