Irfan, Mahoor pockets National Badminton Championship titles
Irfan Saeed and Mahoor Shahzad takes the men, women titles of National Badminton Championship played at the Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad.
WAPDA’s Irfan downs Murad Ali of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) in straight sets by 21-15, 24-22 while Mahoor humbles Sehra Akram by 21-10, 21-09.
Irfan played fearlessly and first set but in the second set, both the players displayed extraordinary show of game and played on each other’s level and after a nail-biting contest Irfan came out victorious with the help of his speed and powerful strokes.
Mahoor on the other hand edges out Sehra Akram too easily and without facing any difficulty by 21-10 and 21-09 to win the women’s title of National Badminton championship.
In the women doubles match, Mahoor paired with Saima Waqas won the title easily after securing an easy victory against Ghazala and Zubaira of Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) by 21-11, 21-13.
National Bank of Pakistan’s pair Rizwan Azam and Kashif Sulehri defeated Irfan Saeed and Azeem Sarwar of WAPDA to win the men’s doubles title by 21-17, 21-13. Around 150 shutters representing all provinces and affiliated departments participated in the four-day event. The event was organized by the Islamabad Badminton Association.
