After successful hosting of PSL and hockey World-XI series, Pakistan is all set to host its first golf tournament with the Asian Tour in 11 years. Security situation is getting better day by day and it helps to bring the Chief of Naval Staff Open Golf Championship to Pakistan, the organizers announced.
The tournament will tee off from 24th to 27th July 2018 in Karachi and that will attract talented cast of Asian Tour stars to the $300,000 event.
“Our talented members are excited to return to Pakistan,” said Josh Burack, Asian Tour Chief Executive Officer, in a statement. Last time Asian tour event was held in 2008 and after that tournament was cancelled due to the dismal security situation in Pakistan.
Now, Pakistan is hosting back-to-back sports series like PSL, World-XI hockey visit and Devis Cup ties because of extra ordinary security situation.
Chief of Naval Staff Zafar Abbasi lauded the return of Asian Tour. “This is great news for golf in Pakistan. We are thrilled to welcome the Asian Tour and its talented members to our beautiful country,” said Naval Chief.
Pakistan hosted its first Asian Tour event in 1989, which was won Frankie Minoza of Philippine. The country’s only Asian Tour winner remains Taimur Hussain who triumphed at an event in Myanmar in 1998.
