Maroof wins gold in All Pakistan inter-university Athletics Championship

Muhammad Maroof of Punjab University wins the gold medal on the day one of All-Pakistan Inter-University Men Athletics Championship at the Peshawar Sports Complex.

Maroof secured the gold in 5000m race as he covered the distance in 16:18.44 followed by Shahbaz of University of Central Punjab.

In the shot put event, Rana Antash clinched the gold medal as his throw covered the distance of 13.86m. Huzran Khan of Punjab University secured silver as he covered the distance of 13.09 and University of Peshawar’s Khalid Ahmed got third position with 13.07m.

Umer Ahmed of Punjab University won the gold medal in the 800m race while Asad Ullah of Punjab University secured second position and Adnan Khan of Sarhad University of Science and Technology ended on third spot.

Fida Hussain of University of Peshawar, Farhan Ilyas of University of Central Punjab, Mohsin of Punjab University, Umer Zaib of University of Peshawar, Usama Bashir of University of Central Punjab, Amjad of Punjab University, Adnan Khan of Sarhad University of Information Technology and Muhammad Zubair Ashraf of Govt College University Faisalabad have qualified for the 400m hurdles finals.

Athletes of 29 universities from across the country are participating in the championship that was organized by Directorate of Sports University of Peshawar. Provincial Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Mehmood Khan was the chief guest of the opening ceremony. Vice Chancellor University of Peshawar Professor Dr Muhammad Asif Khan, former world squash champion Qamar Zaman were also present on the occasion.
