Ahmed Baig wins Sindh Amateurs Golf Championship
Veteran golfer Ahmed Baig of Lahore Garrioson added another title to his name after winning the 18th Sindh Amateurs Golf Championship at the Karachi Golf Club (KGC) for the first time.
Ahmed Baig was runner-up in the recently concluded 57th National Amateurs Golf Championship at Peshawar and he won the Faldo under-21 series and Qatar Amateurs titles.
Ahmed maintained his ascendancy with three round aggregate of par 216 as he played best round of two under 70. He also had consecutive rounds of 73, 73 on first two days. Baig finished five shots ahead of reigning champion Taimur Khan of Peshawar with 221- 72, 78, 71. Taimoor had a bad second round of 78 but he recovered well with one under 71 and finished on second.
M. Sharif of West Wind Golf Club (WWGC) also ended on 221 score and he emerged as second runner-up on his last round score. He played a par round on the concluding day. At 222 was overnight co-leader Sajid while at 225 was Khushal Khan. Zohaib Asif and M. Rehman finished with a three-round aggregate of 227, 11 over followed by Italian Luca Guidi at 229.
Humaira Khalid of KGC stole the day with an excellent Hole-in-One on the hole 16th yellow. Humaira carded 88 and 82 in the first and second rounds and with total 170 he becomes the champion.
Aania Farooq remained on second spot with 117 as she carded 85 and 92 in the two rounds.
Asad I. A. Khan, President of the Sindh Golf Association (SGA), gave away the prizes. Humaira received a complete tailor-made rogue golf set by former top amateur golfer of the country Ali Hai.
