Talha Talib wins first medal for Pakistan in Gold Coast Commonwealth Games
Talha bags first Bronze medal for Pakistan in 62 Kg Weightlifting event on the first day of ongoing 21st Commonwealth games at Carrara Sports Arena 1, Gold Coast Australia.
Talha won the bronze in the 62kg weightlifting category. Talha lifted 127kg, 130kg and 132kg weight in snatch, he lifted 146kg and 151kg in the first and second attempts. He went for 154kg in his third attempt but could not finish it cleanly. Talha ended 3 with a total weight of 283kg.
Malaysian Muhamad Aznil BIDIN won the gold as he lifted a total of 288kg while Morea BARU of Papua New Guinea secured silver for lifting 286kg weight in the same category.
Overall, 15 weightlifters participated in the 62kg weight event.
Eighteen years old weightlifter Talha Talib hails from Gujranwala where he studies Computer science at Superior College, Gujranwala. Talha won a gold medal and Best Youth Weightlifter at the 2016 Commonwealth Youth Championships held at Penang, Malaysia, and wins a silver medal at the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa.
His father Muhammad Islam Natiq won a bronze medal at the 1999 Asian Power lifting Championships in Delhi. Ali Aslam and Muhammad Rashed are the coaches of Talha Talib. Talha’s aim is to win a gold medal at the Olympic Games in 2020.
