Pakistan to face Chinese Taipei in youth games hockey opener
Pakistan is placed in pool B of the five-a-side Asia Youth Olympic Games qualifying hockey tournament to be staged in Bangkok from April 25 to 29.
11 teams have entered in the men’s event of hockey played alongside women competition where Pakistan is drawn to Pool B with five other teams in the five-a-side Asia Youth Olympic Games qualifying hockey tournament.
Following are men’s pool:
Pool ‘A’: India, South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong China, Thailand.
Pool ‘B’: Malaysia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Cambodia.
Former runner-ups Pakistan will start their campaign against Chinese Taipei on April 25. Pakistan to take on Singapore in their second fixture while they will play against Cambodia the following day.
Men in Green to face the challenge of Malaysia in their fourth match they will be up against Bangladesh in the last match of the round on April 27.
Classification matches and semifinals to be played on April 28 while playoffs and final is scheduled to be played on April 29.
The two finalists will qualify for the main round of Youth Olympic Games hockey event being held in Buenos Aires in October this year. It is to be mention here that Australia won the inaugural event by beating Pakistan 2-1 in the final in 2010.
The format was changed to 5’s in 2014 and Australia returned with flying colors for the second successive time defeating Canada 3-2 on shootout after the regulation time ended in a 3-3 stalemate.
