Electrifying start of Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games
Total 6,600 athletes and officials from 71 countries are participating in 18 different games in XXI Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games from 4th to 15th April Gold Coast, Australia.
The third baggiest sporting event – XXI Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games got under way with amazing funfair and tight security in the main Carrara Stadium. HRH, The Prince of Wales, represented Her Majesty the Queen, formally announced the opening of the Games in a thundering applauses and beautiful firework. Accompanied by the Prime Minister of Australia Malcolm Turnbull besides 35 World Premiers.
The Gold Coast welcomed thousands of fans, 6,600 athletes and officials from 71 countries and territories, participating in 18 different games with more than 500 disciplines, putting up 1500 medals to compete. Gold Coast hosting the biggest event in its history begins and sets the tone for 11 amazing days of world-class sporting competition. Australia got the honor of hosting these Games for the 5th times,
At the heart of the ceremony is the traditional Parade of Nations, where all the participating athletes walk behind the flags of their countries in a celebration of sporting unity including Pakistani contingent led by present Lt. Gen (Retd) Muzzammil Hussain as Chef de Mission, followed by 89 member athletes including 21 officials taking part in 10 different Games comprising athletics, badminton, boxing, hockey, shooting, squash, swimming, table tennis, weightlifting and wrestling.
