Pakistan storms into Junior Davis Cup semis
Pakistan extended its winning streak as it defeated Bangladesh by 3-0 to qualify for the semifinals of Junior Davis Cup 2018 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Pakistan Juniors were on a role here as they outplayed Bangladesh in the quarterfinal of ongoing Junior Davis cup 2018 by 3-0 to reserve the semifinal berth of the tournament. Sri Lanka will battle against Group 'C' unbeaten leaders Pakistan at SLTA clay courts in today's play-off tie. Hosts ranked second behind undefeated Group 'D' leaders, Vietnam.
Top Junior Pakistani ace Huzaifa Abdul Rehman started the semifinal’s campaign as he thrashed MD Rakib Hussain by 6-1, 6-0. Huzaifa conceded only a single point in the first set but he did not allow the opponent to take any point in the second set and gave Pakistan 1-0 lead over Bangladesh.
In the second match, Mohammad Shoaib outplayed MD Juel Rana by 6-3 and 6-0. In the first set, Rana resisted a little against Shoaib and took 3 points but Shoaib did not allow Juel Rana to take single point in the second set and provided undeniable 2-0 lead to Pakistan.
In the doubles match, Pakistani duo Huzaifa/M Ahmed Kamil stunned Bangladeshi pair Rakib/Emon Islam by 6-2 and 7-5. Pakistani pair took the first set easily but faced resistance in the second set as they won the second set by breaking the 12th game and grabbed the match by 3-0 to qualify for the semifinals.
