PHF declares “Glasgow” home ground for FIH Pro League
Pakistan Hockey Federation has announced to declare Glasgow its home ground for FIH Hockey Pro League to be started next year.
Secretary Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Shahbaz Ahmed in a press conference has said that Pakistan to host its matches of FIH Hockey Pro League in Glasgow. “Glasgow will become home to Pakistan hockey once the ball is set rolling” he said.
Shahbaz Ahmed and President PHF Brig (r) Khalid Sajjad Khokar visited Glasgow and hold talks with Scottish Hockey officials in this regard. “We’ve discussed ways and means for the successful launch of the Pro-League and it will involve some $2,00,000,” Secretary PHF said.
Glasgow will be serving as Pakistan’s home ground for the bilateral series against different hockey playing countries and Scottish Hockey officials has also expressed pleasure to announce that Pakistan to play its home matches of the FIH upcoming Hockey League at the Glasgow National Hockey Center.
Shahbaz Ahmed added that PHF was looking for a natural venue for its home matches and it find Glasgow a world class and ideal location. It is to be mention here that Glasgow National Hockey Stadium was also the venue that holds the 2014 Commonwealth Games and now it will host as Pakistan’s home venue for FIH Hockey Pro League from 2019 until 2023.
Men’s FIH Hockey Pro League will be featuring Pakistan, England/Great Britain, Australia, India, Argentina, Belgium, Germany, New Zealand, and the Netherlands. It will run from January until June each year from 2019 for a minimum of four years. The competition is a new initiative where the world’s top teams play each other in a series of televised globally home and away matches, leading to Olympic and World Cup qualification.
