Pakistan to send 80 member contingent for Commonwealth games

Pakistan will send its 80 member contingent to Australia featuring in 10 different competitions of commonwealth games 2018.

Commonwealth (CW) games are scheduled to start from April 5 to 15 in Gold Coast, Australia and Pakistan will be sending a contingent comprising of 80 athletes to participate in 10 different games.

Pakistan Sports Board’s Director Media Muhammad Azam Dar while talking to news agency has said that 80 athletes will take part in CW games and will be featuring in 10 different games including:

  1. Athletics
  2. Badminton
  3. Boxing
  4. Hockey
  5. Shooting
  6. Squash
  7. Swimming
  8. Table tennis
  9. Weightlifting
  10. Wrestling

Pakistan's participation in the games includes athletics (men and women one each 2), badminton (men and women two each 4), boxing (4 men), hockey (18 men), shooting (5 men and 2 women), squash (men and women two apiece 4), swimming (men and women one each 2), table tennis (men and women two each 4), weightlifting (8 men) and wrestling (5 men)," he said

He added that training sessions for the preparation of games are underway at Pakistan Sports Complex Islamabad and other centers.
Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) has unanimously approved the decision of taking part in common wealth games, He further said.

PSB has sent summery of Rs33 million to Ministry of inter-provincial coordination for the training expenses of players which is under consideration in the Ministry of Finance, Dar expressed. “Pakistani players are in good practice and we are hopeful that Pakistan will surely get gold medals in weightlifting and wrestling” He concluded.
