Wen-Yi Chou shocks Nishad Kalluri in ITF Junior Ranking Tennis Championship

Unseeded player from Chinese Taipei Wen Yi Chou created quite a stir as he upset seventh seed Indian Nishad Kalluri in straight set and moved into second round of Syed Tajammul Abbas ITF Pakistan World Junior Ranking Tennis Championships at S.Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex, Islamabad.

 

Chinese Taipei qualifier downs Indian Nishad Kalluri in straight sets by 6-2, 6-2. All the others seeded players won their matches. 3rd seed Arthav Neema from India faced hard time from his opponent Mathew Yee of Hong Kong in a well contested 3 set match as both the players displayed quality tennis.

Thailand’s Rattanan Siritaworchar routed Lui Cheng Hsuni of Chinese Taipei in yet another good three set match by 4-6, 7-5, 6-0. Pakistani tennis star Mohammad Shoaib outplayed countryman Ahmed Kamal in three set match by 6-0, 4-6, 6-1. Another Pakistani player from Islamabad Ahmed Asjad Qureshi defeated USA’s Cameron Austin Chang in an exciting three set match by 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. The match lasted for 2 hours.

Indian Srujana Payarala defeated Turkish Sevval Ozseker after conceding just one point in straight sets by 6-0, 6-1 in the girls event. Turkish Semra Aksu and Sedef Bilgic also won their matches without conceding a single point. Both players ousted Pakistani opponents. Another Turkish player Aysegul Mert downs Pakistani Zoha Asim by 6-0, 6-1 and moved into the quarterfinals of the tournament.

President Tennis Federation Saleem Saifullah formally inaugurated the championship and graced the occasion as Chief Guest. President Islamabad Tennis Association Tariq Mehmood Murtaza, PTF officials and a large number of spectators were also present on the occasion.

Second round of Boy’s singles will start at 10:00am tomorrow followed by Boy’s Doubles and Girls Doubles.
