Cricket on Ice: Afridi Royals stuns Sehwag Diamonds in first t20
Afridi XI defeated Sehwag XI in the first of two t20 played on snowy peaks of the Swiss Alps at St Moritz, Switzerland.
After winning the toss Sehwag Diamonds decided to bat first as they posted 164 runs on the board. Indian Sehwag and Sri Lankan Dilshan were the openers and contributed 38 runs for the first wicket partnership. Sehwag played a brilliant innings and scored 62 runs on just 31 balls with 4 fours and 5 sixes. Andrew Symonds from Australia scored 40 in 30 balls and Joginder Sharma played a cameo of 18 runs in just 9 balls as Dimonds who were looking good at one stage were able to score 164 for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs.
Abdul Razzaq grabbed 4 wickets while speedster Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhter picked up 2 wickets. Shahid Afridi and Nathan McCullum got 1 wicket each from Afridi Royals.
In reply, Royals chased the score in 15.2 overs for the loss of just 4 wickets to win the first t20 by 6 wickets. Awais Shah played a blinder or 74 not out runs in 34 balls with 5 boundaries and 7 huge 6’s while Kallis 36 and Smith 23 were other main scorers. Ramesh Powar picked up 2 while Agarkar and Malinga got 1 wicket each from Diamonds.
Second t20 between the two teams will be played today at 4:00pm (PST).
