Ahmed Baig wins Qatar Open Amateur Golf Championship
Pakistani golfer Ahmed Baig won the Qatar Open Amateur Golf Championship played at Doha Gulf Club.
The 19 years old Pakistani who recently won the Pakistan’s edition of Faldo challenge tournament, also managed to win the three days long championship. He played 54 holes with 3 under score.
The Lahori boy did not play well on the first day as he played one-over-par after bogies in four holes which overshadowed his birdies on three holes but he roared back on the day 2 of championship with a big move as he shot two-under-par 70 and came back into the title race with a birdy on holes 5th, 7th, 9th 14th and 16th.
After the second days game, he played comfortably on the third and final day and remained at-par on the first 9 holes. Once again a double bogey on the 13th hole threatened him but he managed well to come out of situation and finished on top with birdies on 14th, 16th and 18th and kept his score to two-under.
Another Pakistani player Taimoor Khan ended on the 6th spot on the leader’s board. He was three strokes ahead of the par-score to complete the championship with a gross score of 219 as he played at-par in round one but he then scored over-2 and over-1 in the second and third round respectively.
Ahmed after winning the tournament along with the winners in the professional category and two best Qatri finishers get seats at the commercial Bank Qatar Master 2018, a European tour event scheduled to be held from February 22 to 25 at same venue.
Ahmed Baig will also represent Pakistan in 11th edition of Faldo series Asia grand final, scheduled to be held at Laguna Lang Co Golf Club in Danang, Vietnam in March 2018.
