Pakistan U19 chocks South Africa in World cup quarterfinals
Pakistan under 19 team defeated South Africa by 3 wicket and moved into the Semifinals of ICC Under-19 World Cup at Christchurch.
Pakistan U19 skipper Hasan Khan after winning the toss decided to put Proteas to bat first and Pakistan used their bowlers pretty well as South Africa lost its first 4 wickets on just 43 runs in 15 overs. For the 5th wicket Proteas batsmen added 59 runs but Green Shirts did not allow South African to snatch too many runs between the overs and they just managed to score 189 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 50 overs. South African wicketkeeper batsman Wandile Makwetu was the highest scorer with 60 runs while All-rounder Jason Niemand contributed 36 runs.
Pakistan used 7 bowlers against Proteas batting lineup where Muhammad Musa remained most successful bowler as he picked up 3 wickets for 29 runs in 10 overs. Left Arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi grabbed 2 wickets while Arshad Iqbal and Hasan Khan 1 wicket each. Sulaman Shafqat, Mohammad Taha and Muhammad Zaid Alam remained wicket less.
South Africa gave the target of 190 runs to Pakistan with the asking rate of 3.8 runs per over. Start of Pakistani batting was not good as they lost two early wickets on just 38 runs and later half of the team went back to pavilion on 111 runs in 26 overs. That stage Ali ZAryab Asif and Saad Khan rescued Pakistan from complete damage as both contributed 65 runs for the 6th wicket partnership.
Later in the innings when green shirts were too confident to win, they lost 2 quick wickets on 176 and 180 runs and Pakistan still required 10 runs in 3.5 over but Ali Zaryab took control of the game and steer Pakistan to 3 wickets victory in 47.5 overs with his unbeaten 74 runs. Saad Khan added 26 and Rohail Nazir scored 23 runs to help Pakistan to seal the semifinal berth.
Jason Niemand from South Africa took 2 wickets while de Klerk, Molefe, Rolfes, Mnyaka and Coetzee took 1 wicket each.
Ali Zaryab for his glittering innings of 74 runs not out, declared the man of the match.
