Ali Sadpara, Spaniard scale Mt Pumori
Pakistani mountaineer Muhammad Ali Sadpara along with his climbing partner Spanish Alex Txikon successfully scale Mt Pumori without supplemental oxygen to become first team to stand on the top of above 7,000 m peak in winters.
Ali Sadpara and Alex Txikon reached on the top 7,161 m mountain around 11:30 am on Saturday 20th January becoming the only team to scale the peak without supplemental oxygen in the winter climbing season.
Ali Sadpara and his partner returned to attempt on world’s highest peak Mount Everest without using supplemental oxygen in the winter climbing season. They have chosen Mt Pumari first because they considered it as a highly technical peak in the Khumbu region and now the pair is planning to set a world record to become first foreigners to climb Mount Everest without supplemental oxygen in the winters.
The mountaineers were of the view that if everything goes according to the plan then the team will start their summit on Mount Everest in the third week of February. It may be mentioned here that Sadpara along with three foreigner mountaineers successfully scaled Nanga Parbat without oxygen in last February.
The team two member team is also supported by two ice-fall doctors and five climbing Sherpas for the Mount Everest mission and the members have already reached camp II. Ang Rita Sherpa was the only mountaineer from Nepal who made it to the top of world’s highest peak without supplemental oxygen in 1987.
Polish climber Leszek Cichy was the first to reach on the top of Mount Everest in February 1979 and after that 14 more successful winter ascents were made successfully till date.
