Aisam, Matkowski shines in Australian Open first round

Pakistani tennis ace Aisam ul Haq with his Polish partner Marcin Matkowski outplayed Brazilian Marcelo Demoliner and Treat Huey from Philippines in the first round of Australian Open tennis tournament.

Asim and partner defeated opponents in straight sets by 7-6(6), 6-4 in 1 hour 24 minutes. The match was played at court 12. Pak-Polish pair fought hard to win the first set against Brazilian-Philippines pair. On the tie break 6-6 Demoliner-Huey won the first two points but Aisam-Matkowski won the next two points to level the score 2-2.

Brazilian-Philippines pair once again takes lead but Pak-Polish pair won back to back 2 points to take the lead for the first time in the first set. Demoliner-Huey equalize the match as they earned one more point to 4-4 but Aisam-Matkowski won another point to take lead that was once again levelled by Demoliner-Huey to 5-5 and won another point to earn the 6th point. At that stage of the game, Pak-Polish duo was a point down but they bounced back and won back to back 3 points to won the tie break and the set by 7-6(6).

Story was entirely the different as Pak-Polish duo came into the second set in dominating mode so Aisam- Matkowski breaks the very first serve of the second set to take 1-0 lead over the opponents and took the lead 1-0 and that continued till the end as Pak-Polish duo easily downs Demoliner-Huey as they did not allow opponents to play freely and won the second set and the match to qualify for the second round of Australian Open tennis tournament.

Aisam-Matkowski will now face Croatian- Swedish tennis players Franko Skugor and Robert Lindstedt in the second round of the tournament. Aisam will also featuring in mixed doubles match along with her Chinese partner Yang Zhaoxuan in the first round and Pak-Chinese duo will vie against Kiwi player Michael Venus and her partner from Taiwan Chan Hao-ching.
