Unbeaten UBL wins PCB departmental ODI cup
UBL enjoyed unbeaten show as they thrashed WAPDA by 6 wickets to win the final of PCB departmental ODI cup at UBL sports complex, Karachi.
Ninth successive win for UBL came in the final match where they easily routed WAPDA by 6 wickets. UBL, after winning the toss elected to bowl first in the all-important match of the tournament and Karman Akmal failed himself and his team on the biggest occasion of the tournament as he earned a golden duck after getting out by Mir Hamza on the very first ball of the innings. Salman Butt also got out on 19 runs and the overall total that time was 50-2 in the 10th over. Batsmen came back to pavilion one after another until the tailenders Khalid Usman and Wahab Riaz came to wicket. Khalid Usman scored 46 and Wahab Riaz remains top scorer of the innings with 53 runs in 45 balls with 6 boundaries and two 6’s and helped his team to end on a competitive total. UBL wrapped up WAPDA’s innings on 218 runs in 48.3 overs.
Hammad Azam grabbed 3 wickest for 35 runs while Mir Hamza, Mohammad Asghar finished with 2 wickets each and Sameen Gul, Ashiq Ali picked up 1 wicket apiece.
In Reply, UBL chased the total of 218 runs in 43 overs for the loss of 4 wickets to win the cup, courtesy half-centuries of inform opener Shah Masood and middle order batsman Sohaib Maqsood. Shan Masood scored 59 runs while Sohaib Maqsood played an innings of 63 runs. Saad Ali 42 and skipper Younis Khan 33 remained not out. Khalid Usman picked up 3 and Zahid Mansoor got 1 wicket from WAPDA.
Shan Masood from UBL scored 632 runs in 9 matches with an average of 158. He scored 3 centuries and 4 fifties and remained not out in 5 innings. WAPDA’s Sami Aslam with 451 runs remains the second best batsman in the tournament.
KRL’s Sadaf Hussain picked up 18 wickets in 7 matches with a best of 55-4 while 19 years old left-arm spinner Mohammad Asghar from UBL got 17 wickets in 9 matches and his best figures in the tournament were 31-4. 19 years old left-arm medium bowler from PTV, Athar Mehmood was the only bowler who picked up five wickets in an innings. WAPDA's Kamran Akmal with 12 dismissals and 532 runs won the award of Outstanding Player of the Tournament.
