Tayyab, Faiza clinch DG Rangers Squash titles
Tayyab Aslam and Faiza Zafar stuns their rivals in the finals to lift the titles of men and women event of 5th DG Rangers Open Squash championship.
Third seed Tayyab Aslam outlasted fourth seed Israr Ahmed in 63 minutes match in four games by 11-9, 9-11, 11-9, 11-6 and won the men’s title. Israr resisted agaist no.3 and managed to won the second game by 11-9 but it was Tayyab who utilized all his experience and energy to claim the $20,000 championship title.
In women event final, sixth seed player Faiza shocks top seed Sadia Gul in 4 games by 10-12, 13-11, 11-9, 11-8 and claims the title in 42 minutes fight. Saida won the first game but resilient Faiza shocks the top seed in next 3 games and won the title.
DG Rangers Sindh, Mej Gen Mohammad Saeed was the chief guest of the final match and he gave away prizes and trophies to the winners and runner ups. Tayyab received the winning purse of $2550 while Israr got $1560 for being the runner-up. Faiza fetched $850 while Sadia took home $520. Pakistani squash lagend Jahangir Khan Sector Commander Sachal Rangers Brig Naseem Pervez and Sindh Squash Association secretary Rashid Ahmad were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, DG Rangers promised to take the event to a higher level in the next year. He said the 11th DG Rangers Open Squash Championship is a testimony of Rangers’ contribution in promoting healthy sporting activities in the city.
