PCB departmental ODI cup kicks off

PCB started its departmental ODI cup where 8 teams are participating in the competition. The matches will played on round robin system. The teams participating in the event are Habib Bank Limited, Khan Research Laboratories, National Bank of Pakistan, Pakistani Television, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited, Sui Southern Gas Corporation, United Bank Limited and Water and Power Development Authority.

On the opening day of the tournament, SNGPL, WAPDA, Habib Bank and United Bank won their matches. The opening match was played between SNGPL and KRL at Niaz Stadium Hyderabad and after winning the toss SNGPL opted to bat first. They scored 321 in allotted 50 overs for the loss of only 4 wickets courtesy good batting by Asad Shafiq 50, Taimur Sultan 43, Khurram Shahzad 52, Hussain Tallat 63, Iftikhar Ahmed 68 not out and Mohammad Rizwan 30 not out. Nauman Ali picked up 2 wickets while Yasir Ali and Sadaf Hussain got 1 each from KRL.

In reply to 322 runs, SNGPL bowlers wrapped up KRL inning on just 209 runs. Opener Junaid Ali scored 38 runs while Luuqman butt with his 36 runs remained the top scorers. Imran Khalid grabbed 4 wickets from SNGPL while Mohammad Abbas picked up 2 and Sadaf Hussain and Iftikhar Ahmed got one wicket each and won the match by 112 runs.

Second match was played between SSGC and WAPDA after winning the toss SSGC put WAPDA to bat first at State Bank Sports complex ground, Karachi. WAPDA scored 272 all out in 50 overs. Khushdil Shah scored a brilliant century, he got out on 103 runs while Kamran Akmal 45 was the other top scorer. Zia ul haq and Ahmed Jamal picked up 3 wickets each while Kashif Bhatti got 2 and Adnan Ghaus got 1. In reply, WAPDA restricted SSGC innings on 199 runs in 46.4 overs and won the match by 73 runs. Mohammad Irfan got 3 while Zahid Mansoor got 2 and Syed Husnain Bukhari, Wahab Riaz, Mansoor Amjad and Khalid Usman took 1 wicket each.

Another match was played between Habib Bank and National Bank at National Bank sports complex, Karachi. Habib Bank won the toss and elected to field. While batting first National Bank, posted 317 runs on score board. Naved Yasin scored 101 runs while Qaiser Abbas scored 91. Mohammad Bilal Shah and Abdul Rehman got 3 wickets each, Habib Bank chased the target of 318 in 48.3 overs to win the match by 5 wickets. Ahmed Shahzad scored unbeaten 162 runs while Rameez Aziz scored 60 runs. Ghulam Muddasar got 2 while Bilal Asif and Kamran Ghulam got 1 wicket each.

Last match of the day was played between PTV and UBL at UBL sports complex, Karachi. PTV after winning the toss put choose to bowl first. UBL posted 296 runs in 50 overs for 9 wickets. Shan Masood 145 and Umar Saqid 72 were the main scorers. M. Irfan jr got 3 while Ali Khan picked up 2 wickets. Hasan Mohsin and Mohammad Irfan Sr picked up 1 wicket each from PTV. UBL wrapped the PTV innings 46 overs on just 232 runs and won the match by 64 runs. Mir Hamza, Mohammad Asghar and Saqib Maqsood picked up 2 wickets each while Hammad Azam and Ashiq Ali got 1 apiece.

Four more matches are scheduled to play tomorrow. HBL to play against UBL, NBP via against PTV, WAPDA to face SNGPL and KRL will play SSGC.
