Aqeel, Shahzad fail to make into quarters of BB Intl’ F3 tennis championship

Home hopes have been vanquished as the pair of Aqeel Khan and Shahzad Khan was bowed out at the second round of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed International F3 tennis tournament.

Pakistan’s hopes to play third successive final in a row ended as Aqeel Khan and Shahzad Khan could not get to the next round after losing their second match of Men’s double event of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed International tennis tournament at Islamabad Tennis Complex.

Turk-Russian pair of Ergi KIRKIN/Nikolay VYLEGZHANIN ousted last Pakistani pair in the tournament in straight sets by 6-4, 6-4. Khan’s broke the second serve of foreigners and take lead by 2-0. Turk-Russian brakes 7th serve of Pakistani pair and bridge the lead by 4-3 and then levelled the score on 4-4 after that Ergi-Nikolay once again broke the 9th serve of Khans to take lead 5-4 but after that, Pakistani duo was unable to score any point and Turk-Russian pair won the first set. In the second set, score was equaled on 3-3 but Ergi-Nikolay breaks the 7th serve of Khans to take 4-3 lead showed their dominance towards the end of the match as Aqeel-Shahzad also scored just 1 more point and Ergi KIRKIN/Nikolay VYLEGZHANIN won the match.

In the quarterfinal stage of Men’s double event, No.1 seed pair of Ukrainian-Russian Vadim Alekseenko and Anton Chekhov defeated Turk-Russian pair of Ergi KIRKIN/Nikolay VYLEGZHANIN in hard fought three set match. Turk-Russian pair won the first set by 7-5 but after that No.1 pair bounced back and won the second set 6-2 and third set by 10-3.

Second seed pair from Austria-Germany Peter Goldsteiner and Julian Onken ousted Indian duo Anurag Nenwani and Jayesh Pungliya in straight sets by 6-0, 6-3. Indian pair had no answer of powerful serves of No.2 pair and they were unable to draw any point in the first set and only managed to take just 3 points in the second set.

Spanish-Russian Enrique Lopez-Perez/Kristian Lozan get another Indian pair Paramveer Singh  Bajwa/Ajay Pruthvi Nemakal out of quarterfinals race as they earned the victory in straight sets by 6-2, 6-1. Another quarterfinal was played between unseeded pair from Ukraine-Russia Gleb Alekseenko/ Ivan PONOMARENKO and no.3 pair from Russia Shalva DZHANASHIYA/ Ivan Nedelko but in the first set when Ukraine-Russian was leading by 4-2 the match was abandoned as Shalva DZHANASHIYA retired from the match due to injury and Gleb Alekseenko/ Ivan PONOMARENKO moved to the semifinals of the tournament.

In the Men’s singles quarterfinals Turkish Ergi Kirkin defeated Russian Anton Chekhov in straight sets by 6-4, 6-2. In another match, No.1 seed Russian Ivan Nedelko ousted Indian Kunal Anand by 6-3, 7-5. Ivan downs Indian easily in the first set but face fair bit of resistance from Kunal but still managed to overpower the Indian to win the match. Spaniard No. 2 seed Enrique Lopez-Perez defeated No.5 seed German Julian Onken by 6-2, 6-4 and to complete the semifinal lineup, No.6 Austrian Peter Goldsteiner upsets No.4 Russian Shalva DZHANASHIYA by 6-3, 6-3.

In the first semifinal of Men’s double’s category, Turk-Russian pair of Ergi KIRKIN/Nikolay VYLEGZHANIN to face Spanish-Russian Enrique Lopez-Perez/Kristian Lozan and in the second semifinal Ukraine-Russia Gleb Alekseenko/ Ivan PONOMARENKO will challenge No.2 seed Austria-Germany Peter Goldsteiner and Julian Onken.
