Talented and young golfer, Ahmad Baig from Lahore Garrison emerged as title winner of the 2019 Sindh Open Golf Championship, which successfully concluded at Arabian Sea Country Club in Karachi.
21st Sindh Open Golf Championship
Sindh Golf Association (SGA) organized another edition of Sindh Open Golf Championship, into the current year which marked its 21st successful edition, featuring quiet a noticeable number of golfers in several competitions contested in the championship.
Professionals and amateurs played three rounds with senior professionals, senior amateurs, junior professionals and ladies playing two rounds each. While another junior category was also contested amongst the amateurs this time in a move to promote young and aspiring golf players, who were given separate awards.
Matloob Ahmed, who dethroned Shabbir Iqbal with his four-year record over the Sindh Open Golf Championship crown last year, was the defending player this time but who failed to defend his title and lost it to young and emerging golfer, Ahmad Baig.
This year’s Sindh Open carried a prize purse of Rupees 3 million with the efforts and help of CEO Arabian Sea Country Club, Mr. Arif, whose dedication towards improving golf standards in the country indicated by the fact that all participating professional golfers will be provided accommodation at the Arabian Sea Country Club.
Pakistan's much decorated professional golfers, Matloob Ahmed and Shabbir Iqbal followed the young Ahmad on runner up and third spots, winning cash prizes of Rupees 208,550 and 135,450 while the title winner, Ahmad bagged Rupees 322,500.
Ghazanfar Mehmood, Muhammad Sharif and Zohaib Asif stood as the top three position holders in the Amateurs Category while the Senior Professionals’ Category winners were Muhammad Akram of Lahore Gymkhana, followed by Imdad Hussain and Tahir Naseem ending on third.
Abdul Wadood won in the Junior Professionals' Category ahead of Muhammad Insaf and Muhammad Saqib while talented, Aania Farooq was crowned the title of Ladies Cateogry and Tabassum Sharif and Danyal Khan won in the Juniors' Category.
